Get Him To The Greek

I only knew about Russell Brand in a second-hand way and, from what I’d heard, was happy to keep my relationship with him on that footing. But he has a certain charm in this as a washed-up but determinedly self-centred/-indulgent/-destructive rock star – sort of channelling Johnny Depp channelling Keith Richards – who has a core of sad-sack loyal fans prepared to pay to see him play. If one of their number, a lowly record company exec, can get him to the Greek Theatre in Hollywood for a comeback gig. Good-natured, predictable stuff but sprinkled with occasional laugh-out-loud left-field set pieces. 7/10
