There’s no scandal in film star Johnny Marco’s life: it’s just a series of empty experiences of self-gratification. Between movies and promotional tours, Johnny (Stephen Dorff) lives at the Chateau Marmont, legendary Hollywood hangout for stars and the girls who want to sleep with them (rooms from $370 a night, if you’re interested). The only meaningful relationship on the radar is with his 11-year-old daughter (played by a very sweet Elle Fanning), who is occasionally dumped on Johnny by her mother.
That’s the film in a nutshell: don’t expect a plot. If you liked Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation, you’ll like this… slightly less. Portrayals of tedium can’t help being a little dull themselves. 6/10
