Hanna

The teenage Hanna (Saoirse Ronan) has been raised in the wilds of Finland by her dad (Eric Bana) to look after herself. She’s equally capable of taking down a deer or a Special Forces troop. He’s a rogue CIA agent who’s been hunted by his former boss Marissa (Cate Blanchett) since Hanna was a baby. Finally Hanna declares herself ready to go after Marissa herself, and allows herself to be captured to execute her plan. And Marissa, obviously.

This is a great premise marred by story flaws – including an ultimate lack of originality – and some distractingly dodgy accents. But if you go with the flow it’s an entertaining romp and there are some great minor characters, especially the British family (right-on parents, precocious kids) with whom Hanna hitches a ride. 7/10

Released July 28, 2011.
