As anti-technology extremists threaten to Ctrl-Alt-Delete artificial intelligence researcher Will Caster (Johnny Depp), he decides to upload his mind to a supercomputer, leaving his wife Evelyn (Rebecca Hall) with one hell of a screensaver to remember him by.
But as this virtual version of Will gets into serious self-improvement, how much of the man truly remains? And should it be let loose on ‘improving’ the rest of humanity too?
The interesting ethical and philosophical questions at the heart of this get a bit lost in what becomes a run-of-the-mill action film. It doesn’t seem quite sure whether it’s 2001, Frankenstein or Invasion of the Body Snatchers – or how to power itself down at the end. 6/10
